This means that you can edit your photos and apply the effects of a series of the Collection’s presets with just one click. Nik Collection 4 also builds on its U Point technology, which allows users to apply local adjustments without masks. In Nik 4 you can now incorporate Control Points into your personalised presets, creating your own distinct style. U Point also adds a new Colour Tolerance setting so that users can adjust the saturation level of a specific tonal range. DxO has also made Control Points easier to use by streamlining the sliders. In other performance enhancements, DxO has improved the user interface with more direct access to presets and filters. DxO has also made the tools more easy to identify.

Other features include improvements to Nik Silver Efex, which removes haze and enhances local contrast, and streamlining the workflow within Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. Users can now re-apply the last preset they used in a Nik Collection plugin while using Photoshop or Lightroom Classic. What’s more, a new Smart Copy & Paste function lets users selectively re-apply a plugin effect to one or more images.

With PhotoLab, DxO incorporated the U Point local image adjustment tools it acquired from Nik, enabling you to make precise, local edits to your RAW files. What’s NewĭxO’s incorporation of Nik’s U Point technology is unquestionably the most significant new feature in PhotoLab. The technology uses what are dubbed Control Points to pinpoint a series of local adjustments to exposure, contrast, micro-contrast, vibrance, white balance, sharpness, blur and more. You access U Point through a new “Local Adjustments” button at the top of the program. To apply local adjustments, you’ll first highlight the area you want to edit using a brushed-on mask, with control over size, feather and opacity. There’s also an automatic masking tool if you don’t trust your own hands to get it precisely correct. The mask can be displayed in gray tones so you can more easily view what’s been masked.ĭxO hasn’t simply imported U Point as is, they’ve made a few useful additions and tweaks.
