I write my end-product in Nisus Write Pro, which uses RTF as its basic file format. One command in Ulysses I use alot is "Paste from RTF". However, I've also become very interested in Zettelkasten note-taking, which requires back links as well as regular links, so I'm currently investigating Bear, Craft, Obsidian, and others. Its grammar checker is OK, but I've recently begun using Grammarly, which does a lot more (with additional expense!). I've been writing with Ulysses for several years, and love it. I already pay for Bear premium because I love it so much, but I might choose Ulysses as my "work" app and Bear as my "personal" - totally keep church and state separate.but not sure I want that.time will tell.Īnother editor just out that is worth checking is Craft. So depending on the mental model you prefer - either can get the job done. BUT.Bear can do everything (i suppose) Ulysses can do with tags and nested tags.which is essentially a directory structure - which is the same as a nested folder structure - which is what Ulysses calls "Groups". Very similar, but maybe further along in their feature roadmap (or beyond where Bear wants to be). As of this post, the only thing that holds a candle to Bear is Ulysses. I've spent a bit of time today poking at the apps on the mac store under "markdown editor" - some are super specific audience (screenplay writers?).other are more generic. I LOVE Bear.my friend introduced me a couple of years ago as a note-taking app.I love it.the beauty and simplicity and modeled more like a human mind.but I need a note-taking app that i can use in ALL contexts but not commingle my notes at (minimum) work vs personal. We do not have plans to fully support writing LaTeX.We hope to release a public beta in a month or two.

  • We do not have plans for native Android or Windows versions.
  • Making and supporting apps is hard, and we don’t want a surprise or delay to let you down because of an arbitrary due date.
  • We generally do not share ETAs on upcoming features, as we feel they cause more harm than good.

  • Download Bear for iPad and iPhone free!.
  • We’ll delete posts and comments that violate these rules. Don’t be a dick, do not post hateful content, do not personally attack anyone. We love reading your treads and we encourage feedback from our bear family! Our subscribers are the best, much love and Bear hugs :) Here we can discuss tips, workflows, news, and how-tos. That's why I hesitate to buy.Welcome to the official subreddit for Bear - flexible notes, beautiful writing on Mac, iPad, iPhone, and Apple Watch. It has what I need, but it's more expensive than Byword. I've also tried it, with their free download.
  • Focused: It's the less known one on my list.
  • Anyone here has this app and can talk about it? YouTube videos about it are super old. But they don't have a free trial, so I haven't tried it yet.
  • Byword: From what I've read, it has all the features I want.
  • So, I'm not willing to pay and be irritated with this bug. I've reported to the support team with a video demonstrating the bug. It's a minor bug, but it annoys the hell out of me. It had a problem for me: when using sentence focus, the rest of the text is dimmed, but every few seconds it blinks to normal color. I just want to write a first draft without distractions. I think I would be paying for features I'll never use. But the subscription model seems a bit too much for what I need. My options (if you know others that fit my needs, please tell me): With paragraph focus, I have improved a lot, but I feel it would be even better with sentence focus. It might seem like a minor feature, but the most difficult thing for me when writing is to keep writing, instead of going back to do minor edits.

But I'm willing to upgrade to an app that allows for sentence focus. It lacks the sentence focus, but it has paragraph focus mode. I've been using a free app called MarkText. Appreciated but not mandatory: ability to pick my font.Focus mode (ideally, sentence focus, dimming everything else).Typewriter mode (the line where I'm writing is always at the center of screen).

  • Distraction free, full screen (just the text and nothing else maybe word count or something minor like that).
  • I'm a person who struggles with concentration when writing (I'm trying to write a first draft of a novel) and I've found that some Markdown apps help me with their simplicity and features.
